| Harur Taluk is in an area where the educational environment is as barren as the natural environment. The college is located one kilometre east of Harur town on the Chiteri Road, Muthu Gounder colony, Harur. The wish of the people of this area is to see their children emerge as graduates. The students who want to pursue their college educational have to undergo the tiresome journey either to Dharmapuri, Thirupathur or Krishnagiri. With the view to realizing the dreams of the people of this region and sensing the urgent need for a good educational institution in this locality, a charitable Educational Trust by name Amman Educational Trust was formed by the family members of Late Thiru R. Muthu Gounder, Ex. M.P. on 26th October 1994. the trust consists of four members – Late Thiru MUF Lion M. Mase, Founder Chairman. Tmt. Usha Mase, Chairman, Tmt. Pavithra Mase, Secretary, Vice Chairman and Correspondent.
Late Thiru R. Muthu Gounder was born as an agriculturist from Harur. He led a simple life of an agriculturist throughout his life. He was a member of the parliament from 1962 to 1971. As a humanitarian, he participated in so many social welfare programmes. He also formed many agricultural organizations and started many schemes for the welfare of the children of the local population in this District.
Late Thiru M. Mase is the son of Late Thiru R. Muthu Gounder. As a true embodiment of his father’s wisdom. Late Thiru M. Mase was determined to carry forward his ideals thus fulfilling his vision of providing the best education for the down-trodden. His optimistic approaches and relentless efforts have resulted in the birth of Amman Educational Trust. He was also the Chairman of the Amman Granite Exports Pvt., and was the Chairman of Indian Matriculation School.
The members of the family spare no pains to bring this college as one of the models in this district. Their services are commendable for the cause of education.
Under the auspices of the above trust, a college by name “MUTHU MASE COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCE” and MUTHU MASE MATRICULATION SCHOOL was started in Dharmapuri district with an uncompromising principle of inculcating the ideals of Discipline, Knowledge and Fraternity among its pupils. Till the academic year 1997-98 the college was affiliated to the Madras University and from 1998-99 onwards it is affiliated to the Periyar University. The college is well equipped with all the needed facilities and equipments it has well established Library with around 18,000 volumes, Laboratories with sophisticated equipments. Spacious play grounds, transport and above all well qualified staff members dedicated to impart a high standard of education to the rural community.
Dr. K.V. Kaliappan is the Adviser of Muthu Mase College of Arts and Science. He was the Head of the Department of Psychology (Rtd.) in the University of Madras Chennai.
