Vision and Mission
         The Vision of Rani Meyyammai College of Nursing is to Promote health and provide quality care to the clients by preparing undergraduate and Post graduate Nurses as Clinical Nurse, Nurse manager, Nurse practitioner, Nurse administrator, Nurse educator and Nurse researcher.
  • Promote application of knowledge of students from physical, biological, and behavioural sciences, medicine including alternative systems and nursing in providing nursing care to individuals, families and communities.
  • Develop understanding among the students about life style and other factors, which affect health of individuals and groups among students.
  • Promote nursing care based on nursing process in collaboration with the individuals and groups.
  • Foster critical thinking skill in making decisions in all situations in order to provide quality care.
  • Promote the utilization of the latest trends and technology in providing health care.
  • Provide promotive, preventive and restorative health services in line with the national health policies and programmes.
  • Promote effective communication with individuals and groups, and members of the health team in order to promote effective interpersonal relationships and teamwork.
  • Develop skills in teaching the individuals and groups in clinical/community health settings.
  • Promote effective participation as member of the health team in health care delivery system.
  • Develop leadership and managerial skills in clinical/community health settings.
  • Promote need based research studies in various settings and utilize the research findings to improve the quality of care.
  • Create awareness, interest, and contribute towards advancement of self and of the profession.
  • Encourage Practice within the framework of code of ethics and professional conduct, and acceptable standards of practice within the legal boundaries.

Origin and Development of the College
         The Department of Nursing functions under the Faculty of Medicine, Annamalai University. The Department of Nursing was renamed as Rani Meyyammai College of Nursing with effect from the academic year 1995. The College of Nursing utilizes the staff and facilities available at Rajah Muthiah Medical College and the Rajah Muthiah Medical College Hospital. The Rani Meyyammai College of Nursing is headed by the Principal Dr. Mrs. S.Kalavathi, who is associated with the college since 1989 and Dr. Mrs. S. Kamala as Vice-Principal.

         The College has grown tremendously from the time of inception till date both academically and structurally. B.Sc Nursing programme, M.Sc Nursing and Ph.D Nursing Programme were started in due time due to high demands from the society. The College has its infrastructure facilities like class rooms, labs, conference hall, library, office rooms, staff rooms and auditorium with the total area of 78,000 sq.ft.

         The B.Sc. Nursing programme was started in Annamalai University in the year 1983, and it has successfully completed 30 years. Thirty batches of students have graduated in Under Graduate Nursing from this University, and many of them are serving in India and abroad. The programme is recognized by the Tamil Nadu State Nurses and Midwives Council, Chennai and Indian Nursing Council, New Delhi. The programme is also recognized by UGC. Various Universities have recognized the programme for the purpose of placement and higher education.

       The M.Sc Nursing programme was commenced from the academic year 2003-04 with the aim to prepare the candidates to function as leaders in different settings like Nurse practitioner, Nurse educator, Nurse administrator and Nurse researcher. Seventeen batches of students have graduated in Post Graduate Nursing from this University,

         The part time Ph.D Nursing programme for in-service candidate started in the year 2002 and part time Ph.D Nursing programme for external candidate started in the year 2006 and 71 Ph.Ds were awarded so far.

Uniqueness of Rani Meyyammai College of Nursing
         Rani Meyyammai College of Nursing is `e in its nature. The College is situated in the University campus. It functions in a separate college building and has a separate budget. The college has a Principal, Vice principal, 1 Professor, 2 Readers, 16 lecturers and 28 tutors with a total of 49 teaching staff (as per INC norms) and 19 non teaching staff

         The Principal is the Chairman of Board of studies & Board of Examinations.

       B.Sc. Nursing programme (4 years), M.Sc. Nursing programme (2 years) in 5 branches such as Medical Surgical Nursing, Paediatric nursing, OG Nursing, Community Health Nursing and Psychiatric Nursing and also Ph.D. in Nursing programme (3 to 5 years) are conducted in Rani Meyyammai College of Nursing. The College is functioning in a new separate college building from the year 2007. It has spacious 4 UG class rooms and 6 PG class rooms The Nursing labs are established and functioning with basic equipments. The department has separate nursing library with 5131 books, 25 Indian & 11 Foreign Journals. A separate spacious auditorium with 6000 sq.ft and 600 seating capacity is available for the students’ programme. Parent hospital – Rajah Muthiah Medical College and Hospital is situated opposite to the college which gives a rich experience to the students learning. Students have adequate facilities to care people in the community area.

      All the students are members of Students Nurses Association (SNA) at state and national level and the students participate in various inter-collegiate competitions and at state and national level. Separate Hostel with bath attached rooms, separate mess, 24 hours water and electricity supply is available

       Alumni of RMCON are working as principals in many of the nursing colleges. Also many are working in various positions all over the world such as U.S, U.K., Nigeria, Malaysia, Singapore, Dubai, Australia, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Oman, Amman, Libya and Newzeland.

RMCON Achievements

  • Both B.Sc. and M.Sc. Nursing programmes are approved by the Indian Nursing Council and the Tamil Nadu Nurses and Midwives Council.
  • Twenty two Faculty members are qualified with Ph.D
  • Fifty three external Ph.D candidates are awarded
  • Four faculty members are pursuing doing Ph.D
  • Twenty two batches of B.Sc. Nursing and Nine batches of M.Sc. Nursing students have graduated from this college.
