Chemistry Section Profile

The Chemistry Section of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology was started in the year 1949. It was attached with Chemical Engineering Department up to the year 2000. Then it was upgraded into full fledged section in the year 2001. Chemistry Section and the lab were shifted to the present new building in the year 2009.

This section was started to help the students of all branches in the Faculty of Engineering and Technology to understand the fundamental principles which are very much needed for their higher studies and help the students to know about the industrial materials which are part of our day to day affairs.

Chemistry is one of the courses in the first year curriculum. In addition the following courses are taught to the students of other disciplines.
• Organic Chemistry: (Theory and Practical) for B.E. Chem. Engineering.
• Environmental Chemistry: (Theory) for M.E Environmental Engineering.
• Applied Chemistry: (Theory and Practical) for Dip.in Mining Engineering. The laboratory available in our Chemistry Section is well equipped to fulfill the practical necessities of First year B.E. students and the research scholars. Our laboratory provides enough space to accommodate 75 students in each class.

The Section offered M.Phil., Applied Chemistry Program till 2010 and so far 30 candidates have obtained M.Phil., Degree. The Chemistry Section has successfully completed research projects supported by UGC and Ministry of Environment and Forests (Major Project)

The Teaching staff and their research students have published more than 300 research papers in International / National journals.
The major areas of research of our faculty members are:
(i) Bio-Inorganic Chemistry
(ii) Synthetic Organic Chemistry
(iii) Crystal Research and Material Characterization
(iv) Environmental Chemistry
