Acquisitions Section
The library presently has a collection of 5,72,000 books besides a rich collection of reports of seminars, conference etc. Any library work may be divided broadly into 2 kinds of jobs, work behind the scene and work with the readers. This section belongs to the former type which regulates the acquiring and preparing the material for use into serviceable articles without delay and minimum cost. Once the books are acquired these have to be technically processed before these are used by readers. The main activities here are classification and cataloguing the documents. Classification in simple terms means assigning a numerical numbers as minute as possible according to the subject which it covers. This helps in arranging all books of one subject in one place rather than making it a store house of books jumbled in one place. Cataloguing helps readers to locate books by author, title and subject cards. All entries are arranged alphabetically like a dictionary so that even a layman can search books of his/her interest and liking. Before the books and other documents reach the shelves, other processes are involved in making these available to users. These include pasting labels, due date slips book pocket, accessioning slip and stamping with the library seal. All these activities are carried out in this section.
Technical Section
The books procured in the Library are being classified with DDC 23rd Edition, Classification of Subjects used by Library Professionals to arrange the books in proper order on the shelf for easy retrieval. Books are catalogued according to MARC 21 and the catalogues are generated using Library Management Software after which the books transferred to concern departments.
Reference Section
Reference materials are meant to aid research by providing quick and accessible information on any particular topic. These materials are usually used to find facts or provide broad overviews of topics. They should not be used as major sources for papers or other projects. Dictionaries, encyclopaedias, bibliographies, and style guides are some of the most common reference materials found in the Library’s Reference Collection. Reference books are meant to be accessible to as many students as possible, and as such, are not permitted to leave the Library. The Reference section in the University Library can be found at the ground floor, just east side.
The Reference Section in this library has various books that are sources of information about different subjects. Total number of books available is 14,595. Previous year Question papers by name Question Bank from 2005 to till date is available for reference and can be taken photocopy.
Virtual Library
A Virtual Library is a collection of resources available on one or more computer systems, where a single interface or entry point to the collections is provided. Virtual library also provides user assistance services such as reference, inter library loan, technical assistance, etc. Virtual Library will function as a subject gateway for reliable and easily accessible source of information on the web. It includes Subject Resources, Online Dictionary, Encyclopaedia, Biography, Directories, Learning Resources, Newsletters, Reports, Job Opportunities, Competitive Exams, and Course Syllabus etc. This service is provided to all the users according to their demand.
