SWAYAM (Study Web of Active Learning by Young and Aspiring Minds) is a program initiated by Government of India and designed to achieve access, equity and quality. SWAYAM platform is indigenously developed by Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The objective of this effort is to take the best teaching learning resources to all, including the most disadvantaged. SWAYAM seeks to bridge the digital divide for students who have remained untouched by the digital revolution. This is done through an indigenous developed IT Platform that facilitates hosting of all the courses taught in classrooms to be accessed by anyone, anywhere at any time. All the courses are interactive and arc available free of cost to the residents in India. A student who earns 3 credits in a MOOC Course thorough SWAYAM portal shall be exempted from an elective course of the Department. Student shall be encouraged to register for as many courses in MOOC as posible.

2. Specially prepared reading material that can be downloaded/Printed
3. Self assessment tests
4. An online discussion forum for clearing doubts
Seven National Coordinators have been appointed
1. NPTEL for Engineering
2. UGC for post graduation education
3. CEC for Under graduate education
4. NCERT for school education
5. NIOS for school education
6. IGNOU for out of the school students
7. IIMB for Management studies
Courses delivered through SWAYAM are available free of cost to the learners, however students wanting certifications shall be registered, shall be offered a certificate on successful completion of the course with a little fee. At the end of each course, there will be an assessment of the student through proctored examination and the marks/grades secured in this examination could be transferred to the academic record of the students.
