VISION

Provide high quality education to create technically competent manufacturing engineers to strive hard for the sustainable development of industry and society and to serve for the nation building.

MISSION

  • Develop the student community with wider knowledge in the emerging fields of Mechanical Engineering with more emphasis on Manufacturing Engineering.

 

  • Inculcate innovative skills, research aptitude, team work, ethical practices among students so as to meet the expectations of the industry as well as society.
  • Motivate the students to pursue higher education and take competitive examinations and various careers enhancing program.

 

  • Create a conducive and supportive environment for all round growth of the students, faculty & staff with emphasis on life-long learning.
  • Provide quality education by periodically updating curriculum, effective teaching-learning process, best laboratory facilities and collaborative ventures with the industries.

 

   The Department of Manufacturing Engineering (erstwhile Department ofProduction Engineering) was established in 1984.

Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)

     With Kumamoto University, Japan for Collaborative research in “Materials Processing using Explosives” from 2006 – 2011, and renewed for five more years, from 2011 – 2016.

     With National Institute of Interdisciplinary Science and Technology (NIIST, Kerala) for collaborative research on “Magnesium and Light Alloys” (2009).

     With M/s. Mailam Industries Pvt. Ltd. Pondicherry for collaborative research in “Materials Joining” by the way of Sponsorship of 3 Ph. D candidates (2011).

     M/s. VB Ceramic Consultants. Chennai for collaborative research in Nano Materials Technology by way of Sponsorship of 1 full-time Ph.D. candidate. VB CERAMIC RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP (VBCRF) Date of Signing of MoU: 12th October 2015.

Consultancy

     Advanced materials such as MMCs, magnesium alloys fabricated by RRL-Thiruvananthapuram, HAL-Bangalore, CVRDE-Chennai have been tested extensively in our Laboratories, to further research collaborations.

     The facilities available with the department like specialized welding process equipments, dynamic testing machine and other testing facilities and metallographic and software facilities are being used for academic collaborations by academic institutions that include Department of Metallurgical & Materials Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology-Chennai, Anna University, Guindy-Chennai, National Institute of Technology - Tiruchirappalli, Pondicherry Engineering College-Pondicherry and many other Engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu.
