Genesis
The Physics department boasts a venerable history, stretching back to the University's inception in 1929. Over the course of nine decades, the department has played a pivotal role in advancing the study and understanding of Physics both within the university community and beyond. Its contributions have been significant, not only in academic research but also in nurturing generations of physicists and contributing to the broader scientific community. Over the years, the department has received sponsorship from various prestigious organizations such as UGC Non-SAP and DST-FIST. It has been led by distinguished professors who have contributed significantly to the field of Magnetism, Spectroscopy and Nanoscience. This curriculum is based on TANSCHE recommendation to incorporate the latest developments in the field of Physics and to equip students with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to excel in both academic and competitive examinations such as CSIR-UGC, NET, SLET, and TNPSC.
Prominence
The Physics department can indeed boast of several physicists of immense international reputation among its alumni. These individuals have made significant contributions to the field of physics through their groundbreaking research, innovative discoveries, and leadership roles in academia, industry, and research institutions. The accomplishments of these distinguished alumni reflect the department's commitment to excellence and its ongoing efforts to nurture talent and inspire future generations of physicists.
